I have a large collection of recorded TV that's not in .wtv or .dvrms format. I'm looking into switching to Media Center to get cable card support but I want my current content to integrate seamlessly into Media Center. Ideally it should show up in the same menu structure as shows recorded with Media Center so there is no difference in how the content is accessed.

I tried just adding the folders to the recorded TV library in Media Center, but the shows don't show up. How do I get them to show up?

There is no supported way to have non DVR-MS\WTV files shown in the Recorded TV gallery.

So is there an unsupported way? Registry tweaks? I'm looking into add-ons now (Media Browser and TV Library) – jrandecker Jun 11 at 18:44

You can start by install a complete codec pack such as FreeCodecs this will give you playback capability (certainly in Video folders - I'm not sure how recorded TV will behave). You will not have access to Metadata unless you use a tool that generates a DVR-MS or WTV format file from yours.

The issue isn't playing back the files, I have the proper codecs installed, the issue is getting Media Center to display them in the first place. – jrandecker Jun 9 at 17:29
